Import your 2D / BMW HP Race data

How to retrieve your .MES files from the 2D Datenlogger or BMW HP Race system to import them into Brake Point.

Updated on February 10, 2026

Prerequisites

  • Software: 2D Datenlogger Software or BMW HP Race Analyzer (Windows)
  • Compatible logger: BMW HP Race Data Logger (S1000RR, M1000RR), 2D systems
  • Output format: .MES folder

What is the MES format?

The .MES format is a folder containing the raw data recorded by 2D data acquisition systems. This format is notably used by the BMW HP Race Data Logger, the factory-fitted data acquisition system on BMW S1000RR and M1000RR motorcycles.

The folder contains several files:

  • Telemetry data (binary format)
  • A .HED file with precise lap times
  • Configuration files (Event.ini, Ring.ini)

Step 1 — Download from the logger

BMW HP Race

  1. Connect your motorcycle via the dedicated USB cable
  2. Open BMW HP Race Analyzer
  3. Download the desired session
  4. The software creates a .MES folder on your computer

Generic 2D systems

  1. Remove the SD card from the logger
  2. Copy the .MES folder for your session to your computer

Step 2 — Prepare the file for import

The .MES folder must be compressed to ZIP before import:

  1. Right-click on the .MES folder
  2. Select Compress (macOS) or Send to → Compressed folder (Windows)
  3. You get a .zip file containing the MES folder

Step 3 — Import into Brake Point

  1. Log in to app.brakepoint.io
  2. Click Import a session
  3. Select your .zip file
  4. Brake Point automatically extracts the MES folder and analyzes the data

Extracted data

DataSource
SpeedGPS or vehicle sensor
GPS positionBuilt-in GPS module
Engine RPMECU (via CAN bus)
GearECU
ThrottleECU
Front brakePressure sensor
Lean angleBuilt-in IMU
Lap timesHED file (transponder precision)

Tips

  • Lap times: the HED file contains transponder-measured lap times, more precise than GPS detection. Brake Point uses them as priority.
  • Sample rate: data is recorded at 100 Hz. Brake Point downsamples to 10 Hz for display and analysis.
  • BMW S1000RR / M1000RR: the HP Race logger is a factory option that records all ECU, IMU, and GPS data without any third-party installation.
