RaceBox: import your sessions into Brake Point

Running a RaceBox Mini or Micro? Export your sessions to .vbo and import them into Brake Point for turn-by-turn analysis and AI coaching.

RaceBox has taken over track days: a GNSS logger the size of a matchbox, no subscription, recording your laps at 25 Hz, and it sticks to anything, bike, car or kart.

Brake Point now imports its .vbo exports. Keep the RaceBox and its app for timing on track, and add detailed analysis once you are back in the pits.

What you get

  • Your laps, cut on your actual line: RaceBox writes the start/finish line you set in the app into the file. Brake Point cuts the lap at the precise moment your path crosses that line.
  • Speed and track map from GNSS, at 25 Hz.
  • Distance travelled per lap, to align your laps and compare them point by point.

The detail that changes everything: the finish line

Most GPS imports split laps by “passing near a point”. That works on a big circuit, much less on a tight layout.

Our reference session, on a 675 m karting circuit, shows it plainly: the finish line there sits 25 m from a stretch of track driven in the opposite direction. Proximity detection counts that return pass as a lap and produces 40 s laps that never happened. By actually crossing the line written in the file, you get the 12 real laps back, all at 48-50 s, and all 675 m long give or take a few metres.

In practice: set your start/finish line in RaceBox before going out. It is what makes the import accurate.

An honest note

RaceBox is not wired to any engine unit. So there is no RPM, gear, throttle or brake: this is GNSS telemetry, clean and precise, but not the channels of a system plugged into the machine’s electronics.

The file does carry an accelerometer and a gyroscope, and we chose not to show them for now. Their values are expressed in the device’s own frame and include gravity: on our session the longitudinal axis averages 1 g at a standstill and does not track real acceleration. Until the mounting orientation is corrected for, showing a G reading would mean showing a wrong number. We would rather go without. It is in progress.

How to import

  1. In the RaceBox app, open your session and export it as .vbo
  2. Go to app.brakepoint.io
  3. Click Import a session and select your file

The .vbo is a format shared by several manufacturers, and each one arranges its columns its own way. Brake Point now reads the file header to adapt: RaceBox, RaceLogic and RaceChrono exports all come through the same door.
